Case Study - The Authentic Food Company
Established in 1985 The Authentic Food Company built its reputation supplying the finest international dishes to Pubs, Restaurants, Hotels, Travel and Leisure, Business and Industry, Healthcare and Education across the UK and Europe.
Electricity bills at The Authentic Food Company had doubled to £500k per year due to the increases in electricity charges. The engineering and financial departments wanted to reduce spend on both energy and maintenance and it was believed that up to 20% would be achievable if the data were available in a manner that could be used.
As the factory was less than five years old, and their refrigeration of a very high standard and specification; it was obvious that their procedures and consumption patterns were the cause of their spiralling energy bills. As a solution to these increasing energy bills and wastage, we devised a system capable of collecting the relevant data and converting it into engineering and financial units. This system was installed to identify the issues and quantify the costs, helping The Authentic Food Company see how their procedures were costing them money.
We identified areas of inefficiency in several procedures in use in the factory. By simply ensuring that fire doors and air curtains in refrigerators remain closed to fulfil their purpose, the factory saw a considerable reduction in energy costs. A 20% energy saving was realised by changing the behaviour of operators and making them understand the financial implications of their actions. These small changes equated to up to £72,000 in a year.
